Farm To School is a HOT THEME in school districts throughout the nation. And why not? It just makes sense: serve our kids healthy meals, while improving their nutrition and reducing obesity! In some cases, the kids get a chance to grow their own garden or learn how to compost food waste. Not only that, but it also supports local farms & economies and promotes eco-friendly practices – less trucking/less gas = a happier globe. So do you think it’s worthwhile?

While searching the web for things to write about, I came across this website: http://www.serve.gov/index.asp . It’s a great one-stop shop for volunteerism.  As I dug deeper, I honed in on this page of toolkits. http://www.serve.gov/toolkits.asp It includes toolkits about how to organize a book drive, start a walking team, or even support community gardens.

Another cool area is the   initiative. This page offers ideas to encourage kids to exercise, eat healthy and read. See 10 ways to get involved. It works in conjunction with Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move program to fight and end childhood obesity.

I like how easy it’s seems to make a difference – to volunteer for a great cause. Maybe I’ll do it. How about you?
